We are extremely pleased to host award winning landscape photographer and author Saxon Holt.  Saxon is also the Photography Program Director at San Francisco Botanic Garden where he has created a series of lectures and workshops around the theme "Picture the Garden." 

With your participation in this workshop you will have the opportunity to learn from one of the foremost landscape photographers in the nation.  This program is presented in two parts: lecture presentation and an interactive workshop.  

This lecture/workshop series will begin at 5:00 pm, Thursday, April 7th, with the option that a Friday program may be added based on demand.

The workshop portion will take place in our beauitful gardens after the Show has closed to the general public.  Saxon will guide you on your own private photo shoot.  He'll provide his insight on capturing the perfect shot and how to "think like a camera".  This is truly a unique opportunity to learn from the best.

Time:  5:00 pm to approximately 7:30 pm

Place:  Pavilion Building, Cal Expo, Sacramento

Cost:  $70 includes admission to the California State Flower, Food & Garden Show and VIP parking next to the Pavilion.

Description:

"What is a Good Garden Photograph" - lecture

This presentation with A/V support will present published work by garden photographer Saxon Holt.  Saxon will talk about getting to the essence of what a photograph can do and explain how and why the photograph was taken.  He will give specific tips on composition and what to look for when photographing your own garden. 

 

"Think Like a Camera" - mini workshop

Professional garden photographer, Saxon Holt, will lead a small group of photographers in an after-hours tour of the Show gardens.  We will discuss the challenges of making a good garden photograph of specific gardens, then each photographer will have time to take their own pictures.  Saxon will offer hands-on help and do an optional follow-up critique on-line of 3 images.
